The Golf Club

At Glen Gorse we pride ourselves in looking after our members.

We like to think that we are inclusive rather than exclusive. Our members form the backbone of the club with a good mix of ages, gender and backgrounds. We actively listen to their needs and implement ideas that make it a forward thinking, progressive and friendly club.

We have enjoyed success nurturing our junior talent with our Junior Organiser Bob Blair at the helm. Over the forthcoming months we aim to implement a Junior Development Programme, that will support a structured pathway system to ensure that we can increase the numbers of juniors participating in once a week golf.

Play Golf

One of the first things you will notice on the course is that it is kept in peak condition. Our head green keeper, Chris Shuttlewood, has been with us for over 10 years. He operates a policy of continuous improvement, one of which is upgrading the greens to USGA specification. The course is a challenging par 72 consisting of narrow fairways and plenty of strategically positioned hazards. To prevent backlogs of players waiting to start games, we have two tee start positions at the first and thirteenth tee. This is particularly beneficial during competitions or large golf societies.

A newly built short practice area is ideal for honing your pitching, chipping and bunker escapes. We also have a practice ground for use of the members.

We have an on-line tee booking system for those that wish to plan their games in advance and avoid waiting and we have periods where members can simply turn up and play (even during competition days). There are numerous competitions during the course of the year. Many of them have historical links and named after prominent club members.

New members are offered a chance to play under a "Taster" membership programme whereby they can use the club and it’s facilities for a fraction of the cost. We help them to integrate into the club through playing golf and through the social events. We will also help them gain an official CONGU handicap. We find that most invariably convert to full membership after the trial period.
